Mondays don’t have to be a drag. In fact, I find Mondays in Boca/Delray to be one of the most exciting days of the week. Why?
MUSIC MONDAYS! MUSIC MONDAYS! MUSIC MONDAYS!
Compared to the rest of the week, Monday seems to be a hot pick for musicians to gather together and host Open Mic jams. An Open Mic jam is when musicians from amateurs to professionals come together to play a few minutes of their music on stage.
Open Mic jams are some of my favorite events to go to in Palm Beach. I find that it ends up being a more enjoyable night than it would have been had I gone to a show with just one band playing. The genres are random, and the level of talent varies significantly to musicians just starting out to pros.
If you follow SherTriesNew on Twitter, you would know that I recently followed three open mics in Boca/Delray and made an appearance at each. I had a blast. I guess you can call it an open mic crawl rather than a beer crawl. Well, I did actually have some beer too 🙂
Here are three open mic spots I visited on my Music Monday!
1) Funky Buddha Lounge– Boca Raton, Florida
The first part of my night was spent at my favorite open mic in the Boca Raton area. I have heard of other open mics on Monday but find Funky Buddha Lounge to be a free-spirited event. All musicians are welcomed, and it is an eclectic mix of young adults ranging from 18-early 30s for the most part. Many of the musicians study Music at Florida Atlantic University, so the talent is definitely there.
They also have this awesome homemade jam where musicians sign up on the list at random and hop on the stage and jam together. There is no rehearsal, so you do not know what to expect once all these musicians start playing together. It ends up being a fun experiment that can either be amazing or a complete mess!
The night I went, they were playing 90s rock with a full band. Following that act was a jazzy sort of act that had everyone in the room snapping their fingers. Check out my twitter for clips and live tweets when I was in the middle of the action.
Check out the: $10 Hookahs, Floridian beer (or any homebrew beer), and their large assortment of teas.
2) 3rD and 3rD – Delray Beach, Florida
So 3rd and 3rd is one of my favorite places in Delray Beach. If not for the food, the chill ambiance.
So when I heard Nathan was hosting a new open mic at 3rd and 3rd, I, of course, had to check it out!
It was an intimate atmosphere of musicians that were very well acquainted with each other, so there was an air of familiarity in the room. Still, everyone was very friendly to the guests that attentively listening and enjoying the music. A few girls from Ireland were having a blast and dancing away as Nathan played a sped up Irish sounding beat on the piano.
Next, I heard some Cyndi Lauper Time after Time before embarking on my next destination. What an excellent jam!
Definitely, check out my live tweets for a listen!
Don’t Miss: Giant Jenga blocks, comfy couches up front, fun artwork.
3) DaDa Open Mic- Delray Beach, Florida
The last and final stop was Dada Open Mic in Delray Beach, Florida. By now, the open mic had died down a bit, but I still had the chance to catch up with my friend and listen to some cool music.
They also have a cool way of getting people on stage. For performing, they give you a free drink!
Definitely try: Mojitos, playing with the chalk on the tables, relaxing on the outdoor patio.
So try having a Music Monday and let me know how your experience goes! And your idea of Monday may change too!
